Local Heritage Displays
The Elliott Chappell Health Centre is a superb £11m health centre that encompasses GP practices and community care services. The facility captures the spirit of an area associated with Hull's great fishing heritage and is named after Reverend James Elliott and Pastor Thomas Chappell.
Historically known as the hub of Hull’s fishing community, Hessle Road has a rich cultural heritage deeply intertwined with the city’s maritime history. The area was renowned for its close-knit community spirit, especially among the fishing families who lived there. The women of Hessle Road played a significant role, particularly highlighted by the "Headscarf Campaign" led by Lillian Bilocca after the triple trawler disaster in 1968, which led to significant safety improvements in the fishing industry.
Hessle Road was also known for its vibrant street life and local businesses that catered to the fishing industry. The area has seen significant changes over the years, but it remains a vital part of Hull's identity, celebrated for its resilience and community solidarity
Inside the Elliott Chappell Health Centre, patients and visitors can see an 1888 map of the area and relate the buildings of the day with ancestral records for that era. Colourful wall art in the main stairwell captures information from the 1911 census. This heritage is augmented by window manifestations and other historic materials in display cabinets throughout the building

Spirometry is a simple, non-invasive procedure and common diagnostic test used to assess lung function and detect various respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary fibrosis. It does so by measuring the volume and flow of air that a person can inhale and exhale. During a spirometry test, a patient breathes into a device called a spirometer, which measures the volume and flow of air expelled from the lungs.
If you feel you have breathing problems please contact the practice to make an appointment with a clinician to plan the best way forward for you.
